A Legacy of Excellence

A Legacy of Excellence
Our story dates back to the 1880s at Kew Bridge, when a farmer made an unplanned stop at the Express public house to rest. There, he sold cabbages to local residents, and this simple transaction sparked the beginnings of what would become a thriving market. Soon, the spot became a regular gathering place for growers, and a market emerged, initially trading three days a week.
By 1892, following a public inquiry, a two and a half-acre site to the west of Kew Bridge was acquired, and the old Brentford Market was born. It quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest markets in the country, with its expansion in 1906 and 1921 cementing its status as a central hub for fresh produce.
However, by the late 1960s, the market had outgrown its location, and a new site was sought. In 1974, traders moved to the new purpose-built Western International Market near Heston, just off the M4 Motorway. This relocation marked a new chapter, with the market benefiting from an exceptional location that offered better accessibility and space for growth. In 2008 the market was relocated to a new site +-100 meters from the old site.
